Word of the Day

Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the Ammonites and took the royal city. 27 And Joab sent messengers to David and said, “I have fought against Rabbah; moreover, I have taken the city of waters. 28 Now then gather the rest of the people together and encamp against the city and take it, lest I take the city and it be called by my name.”
2 Samuel 12:26-28

When I came across this story I was absolutely struck by the loyalty, sacrifice & humility of Joab. Here is was, fighting the battles for the king, overtaking a city and after he got 99% complete he stopped so that David could come take the final blow and get credit as the king. What was really convicting for me is to put myself in Joab's position and consider what I would do? How tempting would it be to take the city myself? Would I care more about the Kings glory than my own... and then it REALLY hit me... How often do I steal the glory of the King of Kings? If it is really from him, through him and to him that are all things (Romans 11:36), then how could I ever take credit for anything?!

Lord, Please forgive me for my pride and not giving you all the glory that is due to your name. Help me to love you & serve you with the power that comes from you and the humility to give you all the praise. Please use me like Joab to be willing to be invisible in my service to you!
