Our Story

Thank you for your interest in West Valley! We are always excited about the possibility of people joining us in the greatest adventure any person can experience.

While we love what’s going on here, we do not believe that this adventure is tied to any particular church or organization. We believe the adventure is inescapably linked to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We truly believe Jesus is the only way to experience life as God intended. Therefore, our first priority and desire is that you come to know Him personally.

If you’re already a follower of Jesus and you’re looking for a group of people to join with in trying to figure out what it practically means to follow Him, then we might be the group.

Our Timeline

October 2003

We started gathering together in a home as a small group challenging each other to love God by loving people enough to get into their lives showing and telling people of His love as He gave us opportunity.

April 2004

We quickly grew out of that home and began to meet on Sunday mornings.

Spring 2006

Over the next few years, we continued to grow to the point we acquired our current facility. Now the bummer…we really began to grow!

March 2007

We had to go to three services, and by year end we were trying to care for more than 800 people with only one full time paid pastor (not me) and an all-volunteer support staff.

So why was this a bummer? Quite frankly, we got intoxicated by the numbers and most of our time, energy, and resources began to be about the Sunday experience. I am not saying there’s anything wrong with gathering together to worship God; we simply realized we had unconsciously lost the zeal for the mission of our King by trying to “do church” on Sundays really well.

We also realized that we had done a poor job of letting the people that God was bringing our way, know that joining us meant joining a missionary outpost more than a traditional church.

May 2008

The Lord began to graciously move us into a series of course corrections to turn us back to His missionary mindset and practice.

All that to say, we are now very consciously trying to emphasize loving God by loving people, Monday through Saturday, just as much as we emphasize the gathering together to worship God on Sunday.

Consequently, we don’t have many of the typical weekday church programs you might find elsewhere. At this point, what that means to you is that you really need to take a hard look at who we are and what we’re about before you think about joining us.

Our greatest priority and desire after you have come to know Jesus personally is that you join Him in the great adventure of becoming a well equipped missionary right where you live, work, and play. As Jesus put it, “Follow Me and I’ll make you fishers of men.”
