Word of the Day: Psalm 91:1

Word of the Day

Psalm 91:1

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

The Shadow of the Almighty

This verse brings to mind a book Elisabeth Elliot wrote "The Shadow of the Almighty". The story of 5 missionaries, including her husband, Jim, who were murdered in the jungles of Ecuador 55 years ago by the primitive Auca Indians.

Verses 14-15 say, "Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him". And yet these trusting young men were speared to death upon their arrival in Auca territory.

Our church shared this news with us within days of their deaths. My first question was, "What went wrong?" The answer is hard to find. But it should cover all the thousands who have died for the cause of Christ, including those of Jesus' Apostles who willingly gave their lives. Grace at it's fullest?

Think of the impact on world missions Jim Elliot has had ... because he was taken by God so early in his ministry.

Surely the Lord did rescue them from their earthly pain and honor them with His immediate presence.

Faith takes a long view ... God's shadow is a long shadow.

Help me to understand Your ways for me better, Lord!

Blessings,

Tony
