You have given me the shield of Your salvation, and Your right hand upholds me; and Your gentleness makes me great.

Gentleness and Greatness

When I look at David's life and the way God worked in it, gentleness is not the first thing that comes to mind. But perhaps David's greatest moments were not when he was triumphant on the field of battle. Let me look again. Was David at his greatest when he spared Saul's life, not once but twice? (1 Samuel 24 & 26). Or when he took crippled Mephibosheth into his own home? (2 Samuel 9) Or when he protected the survivor of one of Saul's senseless massacres with his own life? (1 Samuel 22:23).

Where did this great warrior king learn this gentleness? It is where I too can learn that gentleness ... from my great - and gentle – God.
