Word of the Day: Psalm 15:1
Psalm 15:1
O LORD, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill?
True Worship
David brings to mind the need to prepare my heart for worship in His sanctuary. Only God knows my heart, and He alone can say if I am truly ready for worship in His sanctuary.
In the formalized worship of the Jerusalem sanctuary, the people would ask, "Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord?" A priest would answer with a list of 10 requirements:
- Taking God's law seriously
- Ordering their lives accordingly
- Being known for integrity of speech
- Saying what they mean and meaning what they say
- Engaging in practical good works
- Helping their neighbors
- Avoiding being trapped with ungodly liaisons
- Supporting those who serve the Lord
- Fulfilling their promises
- Above reproach business dealings
As I think through these requirements, I realize that they are intended to help prepare me for worship. The key word is "prepare". So, God, prepare my heart for worship and may the list above be only the beginning point of self examination ... not only at my time of entrance into your sanctuary.
Blessings,
Tony
