Word of the Day: Proverbs 4

Word of the Day

Reading: Proverbs 4

"A Father's Instruction"

"When I was a son to my father, Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother, then he taught me and said to me, "Let your heart hold fast my words; Keep my commandments and live..." (Proverbs 4:3-4)
Of all the things I experienced and learned growing up in a home of an alcoholic father, one has left its indelible mark. The words that he spoke and the things that he did, instructed me in the path not to take. As I reflect back to those formidable years, I did receive some nuggets of truth that remain with me today. Proverbs 20:1 says it well. "Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise." My father was not a wise man.

No matter what we do, we instruct our children. What a blessing to be able to teach them to love God and His Word.

Lord, I pray for us Dads. Let us see your example as a Father and a Friend.
Give us the wisdom, courage, and persistence to be Godly men that instruct our children unto godliness.
