Word of the Day: Luke 8:39

Word of the Day

"Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you." Luke 8:39

What a great scene that must have been in Luke 8 when Jesus was confronted by a man who was possessed with demons. Luke 8:27 says the man "…was possessed with demons; and who had not put on any clothing for a long time and was not living in a house, but in tombs." So he didn't even know what it was like just to live a normal life. In fact, I'm wondering what he must have looked like. It would be interesting to see that as this demon possessed man was walking over to Jesus, how the people were reacting. Were they thinking what bad things the man could do to Jesus? Were they yelling to Jesus to get out of his way because the guy is really strong? Were they telling him to have nothing to do with this demon possessed guy because was just weird? Actually, it really didn't matter what the people said, what the people thought or what they did. Once Jesus commanded the demons to come out of the man, everything changed. He was clothed and he began to act rationally. His life changed and he just wanted to be with Jesus. Isn't that how most of us are once we know the changing power of Jesus in our lives? We want to study the Bible and get to know as much as we can, and then try to learn more? Maybe put another way, we just want to hang out with other Believers and learn the Bible. However, Jesus tells this formally possessed demon man he wasn't to get comfortable and just listen to Jesus teaching, but instead he was to go back to his house and tell them about "… great things God has done for him." We are to study the Bible and know God more, for sure, but we must not forget Jesus second command to tell others about what God has done in our lives!

Father, help me to be in your Word and know you more, but also help me never forget to do as Jesus said and go "proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things God has done …."
