Word of the Day: Judges 1

Word of the Day

Reading: Judges 1

"Who Will Lead Us to War?"

"Now it came about after the death of Joshua that the sons of Israel inquired of the LORD, saying, "Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them? The LORD said, "Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand." Judges 1:1-2

When Moses died, he passed the baton to Joshua who valiantly lead Israel's battles and celebrated their victories. Judges opens up with the death Joshua, their leader, or in my terms, the main man. Israel, left all alone, didn't look for a man but, "inquired of the Lord", on who should lead them in battle. Joshua trained them right. No longer is Israel depending on a man, but on God to lead them. God's response is, "Judah shall go up". He didn't mean the man Judah would be the leader but that the tribe of Judah would be lead by the Lord himself and that He would "give the land into his hand." I guess you could say Israel had truly become the 'Lord's Army'.

Lord, be my Captain so that I may go out to War.
