What is My Real Worldview?

Word of the Day

Does anyone remember the 90s song by Audio Adrenaline titled My Worldview? The chorus went like this:

My world view
it's how I see the world
it's how I look at you
My world view
it's how I see the world
would you like to see it to?
My world view

Our worldview is the lens through which we see life. It's what shapes our attitudes and actions. Every person regardless of whether they are a follower of Jesus or a staunch atheist has a worldview.

I recently gave a culminating assignment to my 5th grade class challenging them to describe and defend their worldview. I gave them a list of questions to get them started. Some of them include: Is the world natural or supernatural? Are people basically good, bad or neither? Is there any real meaning to life? If so, what is it? One of the final questions questions I asked them to wrestle with is whether or not there is a gap between their stated worldview(what they believe in their heads) and their actual worldview (how they really live). All of this prompted me tonight to think about the verse that Tony Redmond challenged us with during communion yesterday. Jesus said in Luke 6:46 "Why do you call me Lord, Lord and not do what I say?" I kind of feel like those words should ring in my ears much more than they actually do. I know that I can give a pretty Biblically solid worldview with my lips to anyone that asks me, but can they see and feel it before they even ask the question. I am currently reading through A Harmony of the Gospels. It puts the Gospels in chronological order and allows you to see each writers' account side by side. This morning I read the account of Jesus and the leper who asked Jesus if he was "willing" to heal him?" Only Mark's Gospel adds that Jesus was "moved with compassion." All three synoptic Gospels add that Jesus said to him "I am willing, be cleansed." I have a solid stated worldview, but am I "moved with compassion" and "willing?" Why do I call Him Lord, Lord, but not consistently do what He did?

Now back to that 90s song...it begins this way

I want to see the world through Jesus eyes
see through Jesus tears
I want to see the world through Jesus eyes
my vision's not as clear
I want to feel the world with the hands that made it
know the pain and appreciate it
hear their cries and hope to understand

Father,
Help me to live out what i say I believe.
Cause me to be a man of compassion with a
willing spirit.
I trust that it is
YOU
Who works in me for
you good pleasure.
Amen
