Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.
1 Samuel 30:6

There are times in my life that I find myself distressed when alone. But the HARDEST times are when I am in a group of people who are distressed, and perhaps even angry with me... But there is something more here that just a spiritual strengthening... David was strengthened spiritually AND physically through the presence of the Lord. After all, the God who breathed his life into our physical bodies can do it again right? So many times when I am physically tired, I fail to come to the author of life and seek his strength.

David then inquires of the Lord through prayer before he goes out to rescue his people who were taken captive (including his 2 wives!!) Here I wonder, If my wife was kidnapped, would I stop and ask God if we wanted me to go rescue her?!?!? Here is another one of those times where it seem so obvious what to do... yet David still inquires of the Lord to make sure he is moving forward under the blessing of the Lord.

Then David goes out recharged with his 600 men to rescue their people that were taken away. They succeed and took back EVERYTHING. Nothing was missing (Ch 30:19)! Finally we read almost as a footnote:

When David came to the two hundred men who were too exhausted to follow David, who had also been left at the brook Besor, and they went out to meet David and to meet the people who were with him, then David approached the people and greeted them.
1 Samuel 30:21

The text doesn't say why these men were "too exhausted" to follow David... But I just can't help to think that they didn't find the same physical strength that David did. Far be this from me Lord!

Lord, breathe on me once again for both spiritual and physical strength. Lord, I beg you to put me into situations where I function in the power of YOUR strength so that I can give you all the praise! Let me not shrink back because I am too tired. You never sleep and you can fill me with the energy that functions supernaturally!!
