Should I Stay or Should I Go...

LoveGodLoveOthers

...well those aren't just lyrics to an 80's punk rock song, it was the question my wife and I were praying about on whether or not she should go with me to Africa for a WVBC mission trip.

God had already made it clear that I should be going but whether or not my wife should go remained unclear, so we started praying and reading. Somewhere along the line God gave me an answer but I really wanted my wife to hear from the Lord as well (way better to hear from God then me). So for this post I just want to share some parts from her journal (yes I got permission) to see an example about how God answers prayers and speaks to us through His Word.

The days went on and everyday I sought God for an answer and He gave it to me on 1/15. I was reading in 1 Corinthians and 4:1 says "Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God" and I couldn't get over the word steward. When I looked up the word, it defined steward as "a person entrusted with and responsible for his masters entire household." I started to pray about who my "stewards" were and who God had entrusted me with right now. It was at that time that God revealed that in His household he has most importantly put me in charge of 4 little disciples and everyone I meet because of those 4 little ones. I knew that I needed to work hard at being trustworthy with whom He has already entrusted me with, my own children, and that he was not calling me to the people of Africa. Even though sometimes I feel sad that my husband will experience something great that I will not get to share with Him, I am reminded that we are here for His purpose, not our own. My life is not my own, and I am filled with joy knowing that we can know the thoughts of God through the Holy Spirit (1 cor 2:10). The fact God would actually speak to me through His word is quite amazing.

Hopefully you read this for what it is, God speaking specifically to us, not someone saying that women should stay home in the kitchen and make me a sandwich! For our family at this point in time God made it clear to the both of us the direction we should go and I share this purely to encourage you that God is faithful, God does and will speak to us through His Word (Hebrews 4:12)
