Our Perspective

LoveGodLoveOthers

Today's reading includes two very compelling messages at opposite ends of the human condition. The first was found in the very last verse in the book of Judges:"In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes." (Judges 21:25). The second was found in Luke 7:47, "...her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little."

The difference between the two is one of perspective and focus. In Israel's case their perspective was one of self reliance instead of trusting God and their focus was on the world's standard of rule and order (earthly king) instead of God's rule and order. They became their own gods as they dismissed God's authority in their lives even though His authority was and is one of a loving Father who only desires the best for His children. They rejected the very God Who had brought them out of slavery and into the land of promise.

In contrast, the prostitute's case in Luke 7 demonstrates her perspective as one of utmost humility and appreciation of Jesus' grace towards her in light of her recent past life. Her focus was relentlessly on Jesus Himself. She loved much because she was acutely aware of her sin and her need for a Savior. She saw God for Who He is and Jesus for Who He is which resulted in a complete sense of self forgetfulness. She was free to worship Jesus no matter who else was watching and had no concern what others thought.

I wonder how my life demonstrates my perspective of God and drives my focus. How do you see God? Where's your focus and how does it influence you?

Father please keep my eyes focused on Jesus and my perspective of You intensely Biblical. Forgive me for seeing You through human eyes and not trusting Your Word. Please make me a man who loves much in heart felt appreciation of You forgiving me of so much. Thank You Father!
