One Nation Under God…

The Lord has convicted me over that statement recently as I think about what has ultimately been given for this Country throughout its brief history. There has never been a country that was founded on the Word of God until this one or like this one, there has never been a country that has been writing its founding documents only to break for three days specifically to pray for guidance from God (called for by Benjamin Franklin)….never.

and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations (Romans 1:4-5)

Paul, makes it a point to address “all the Nations” as he co-authors Romans. Never forget that America is a nation as well…men and women for years since her founding have been willing to give their lives and the lives of their families for the freedoms and liberties that are promised to her citizens. Paul also speaks of freedom (or being free) in Christ…

For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2)

The Declaration of Independence states that the 13 colonies were “Free and Independent States” while the Founding Fathers recognized God as the source of their (our) rights.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain Unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness…”
Freedom and Liberty are a blessing given to us by God, the challenge itself is not “America” but to the follower of Christ. A slight unpacking of Romans 1:5 shows us that, Paul says that we have “received grace” (gift) to “bring about obedience” (if you love me keep my commandments, see John 14:15) for “the sake of His name,” (Ps 8:1) “among ALL, nations” (Rev 5:9) let us not forget OUR country, our community, our neighbors, and our families.

Heavenly Father, King of Kings – I pray to you today for your Spirit ignite us in a new and refreshing way. I pray that we would embrace a life of obedience that shows our country the TRUE Jesus, and the TRUE church. I thank you for the men and women who have and do defend this Country. In Jesus name, Amen
