At My Right Hand

Word of the Day

Psalm 16:8

I have set the LORD always before me;
because He is at my right hand, I shall
not be shaken.

This is one of my favorite verses. I read it again this morning in my time with the LORD. I have taught my three older sons to memorize it. They put their hands straight out as they say "I have set the LORD always before me;." As they say the next line "because He is at my right hand" they raise their right hand. Finally, they say "I shall not be shaken" as they shake their bodies back and forth. The gestures are kind of silly, but I really do hope they never forget them.

When I read the verse this morning my mind started remembering what it was like to be with my dad when I was a kid. I remember him being a larger than life character that could be defeated by no one. When I was with my dad I wasn't scared because I really did believe he could handle anything, fix anything, and protect me from anything. Later in the day I was walking down the main aisle in Target holding my three year old son's hand. I looked down and noticed that he was strutting pretty confidently. I'm sure some of this had to do with the fact that he is naturally quite a character, but I'd like to think some of it had to do with the fact that he was walking with his daddy. I noticed that he looked around a lot and became pretty distracted, so much so that he often bumped into me or tripped as he lost his shoe, but I had his hand the whole time....
